Our servers employ all the latest web technology and are constantly kept up to date in the stata-of-the-art UK data centre. Below are some of the main features our servers use and are available on all of our hosting packages.

Scripting

The following scripting laguages are included as standard in all of our hosting packages: PHP, Perl and Python. Also available is ASP which is included on our Standard and Advanced hosting packages. ASP.NET 2.0 is available as an optional exta on any hosting package.

Databases

All hosting packages include ODBC support for using most types of databases. Use in conjunctoin with ASP to access data from a Microsoft Access database, Excel file, text file or many others.

MS SQL and MySQL databases are also available for more advanced requirements. MySQL is included with our Professional package, however databases can be added to any hosting package. It is reccomended that MySQL databases are using with sites written in PHP on a Linux server and MS SQL databases are used with ASP.NET on a Winodws Server.

Password protection

Choose who has access to different parts of your website with password protection. Windows servers have a choice of standard of advanced password protection, the main difference is that advanced protection allows you to read usernames and passwords from a database.

Linux servers have the ability to password areas of your site as standard.

SSL secure web space

Make an area of your site fully secure with 128-bit SSL encryption from Thawte. Ideal if you need to trasfer sensitive data such as credit card or personal information.

Load balanced web hosting

Spread the load of your site between more than one server with load balancing. This adds to the reliability of your site - if a problem develops with your web server, you site will stay up and running. Visitors are seamlessly trasfered to the server which has the most capability at that time.

Custom error pages

Whenever a visitor to your site encounters a problem such as an error on the page, or accidently navigates to a page that doesn't exist, you can create your own, custom error pages to inform them. This is a far more professional look for your site than the standard error page genereated by the web browser or the visitors ISP. You can choose to have one page for all errors or a seperate one for each type of error.

SSH secure shell access (Linux web hosting packages)

Get direct access to your server's command line with SSH. You can move files around and upload / download files using SFTP. This service is standard on all our Linux servers.

Test domain

Domain registration or transfer can take several days to complete. All our hosting packages provide you with a test domain name so you can use your webspace as soon as it's made live. You domain name will take over as soon as setup or transfer is complete.

Media streaming

Stream audio and video from your website in Windows Media format, served direct from our dedicated media servers. Optional extra with all web hosting packages.

Sub-domains

Sub-domains allow you to split your domian into different parts with its own web address such as subdomain.yourdomain.co.uk. You can add sub-domains on your account when it's set up. The amount of sub-domains you can add depends of your hosting package. See the comparison table for full details.
